Meta’s Failure to Enforce Policies & FTC Violations

Meta has previously violated Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations and incurred penalties for failing to enforce its own policies on harassment, doxing, and privacy violations. By continuing to allow the "Are We Dating the Same Guy?" (AWDTSG) groups to engage in these harmful practices, Meta is once again in breach of its FTC settlements and may be subject to further financial penalties.

To hold Meta accountable, report them to the FTC here:

Sample FTC Complaint (Customize as Needed):
Subject: Meta’s Failure to Enforce Policies Against Harassment and Privacy Violations

Dear FTC,
Meta is knowingly permitting widespread harassment, doxing, copyright infringement, and defamation through private Facebook groups operating under the name "Are We Dating the Same Guy?" Despite thousands of reports and multiple legal challenges, Meta continues to allow these groups to exist, in clear violation of its own policies.

These groups routinely:

-
Misappropriate copyrighted content by posting men’s photos from dating apps without consent.
-
Violate privacy laws by sharing personal information, including names, ages, and locations, without permission.
-
Facilitate defamation through false accusations that cause reputational, professional, and personal harm.

The consequences have been severe, including job losses, mental distress, and even instances of violence. Meta’s continued inaction not only violates its own community standards but also constitutes deceptive business practices by misleading users about its enforcement of safety policies.

I urge the FTC to investigate Meta’s negligence and take appropriate action to ensure compliance with federal regulations.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Steps to Request Post Removal Using Meta Verified Support

Sign up for Meta Verified – Cost around $15.
Submit a ticket through support.
Once a support agent joins the chat, they will ask for details.

You’ll need:
The group link

Screenshots of the post, including the original post and some of the worst comments and/or as many screenshots of comments you have (this is important)

They may also ask for the post link, but if you don’t have it, ask them to search by post date and match it with your provided screenshots.
How to Explain Your Case Effectively:

Clearly state why the post should be removed—for example, if it has led to harassment, contains defamatory comments, or spreads false information about you.

Be detailed in your explanation. If you only say “this is harassment,” they likely won’t approve the request. Instead, explain how the post has harmed you.

Examples that worked for me:

One post showed a street sign near my home—I explained that people now know my location, making me fear for my safety.
Another post had a comment calling me "crazy." I argued that this falsely implies a mental health diagnosis, which I do not have, and is therefore defamation.

Things to Keep in Mind:
Support can be difficult to communicate with—unclear responses and language barrier

You must reply quickly—if you don’t respond within a few minutes, they pause the chat, and you’ll have to wait hours or days to get back in the queue.

Processing time varies—one post took 10 days to get removed, while another was handled in just one day.

Following these steps should give you the best chance of getting the post taken down. Stay persistent!

Project Callisto is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering survivors of sexual violence through technology. Their primary tool, Callisto Vault, is an encrypted platform that allows survivors to not only create a timestamped record of their assault, providing a secure and private documentation option. It also allows survivors to enter identifying details of the perpetrator in a matching system. If another survivor reports the same individual, both are connected to a pro bono attorney to explore their options.

This approach aims to increase the accountability of serial offenders and offers survivors an alternative to traditional reporting methods. Callisto's mission is to support survivors in navigating inequitable systems, envisioning a world where they can find healing and justice on their own terms.
In September 2024, Callisto announced financial challenges threatening its operations. The organization launched a campaign seeking donor support to continue its services.
Despite these challenges, Callisto remains committed to its mission, continually seeking innovative solutions to support survivors and hold perpetrators accountable.
